Second UniMET Partner meeting

The Second UniMET partner meeting was held on 21st and 22nd of June 2010 in Klaipeda, Finland. 8 of the 9 partners of the UniMET project came together for a meeting at the Lithuanian Maritime Academy.

The meeting has commenced discussing the progress made since the First partner meeting. This led to the main issues to be discussed at the meeting: Progress made and future work.

The UniMET project at present identifies the good practices in the partner countries alongside the local and national requirements in each partner country. This will identify the set of action plans of the UniMET programmes. Visits to each partner MET institutions are being carried to aid this identification process.

Questionnaires for UniMET materials are being finalised and the UniMET project will decide based on the outcome of the questionnaires, and whether to include a number of components into the project. The intended UniMET components are tabled in the below hierarchy chart.

The intended UniMET components

The UniMET project will follow the recent STCW changes and IMO guidelines and will update the UniMET programmes accordingly. Cross-referencing techniques are also being used to aid the identification of differences at each partner country as well as to define the good practices, and local and national requirements.

A new platform for UniMET programmes is being designed and developed in order to let UniMET partners to use common programmes in their institutions. This will enable the transfer of good practices from one institution to another enabling them to learn from each other. This platform is intended to be expanded in the future with more UniMET institutions. The UniMET platform is intended to be launched in August 2011.

More news about the UniMET project progress will be available soon.
