Exploiting UniMET in Europe

1st UniMET conference was held in London, UK alongside the Third UniMET partner meeting on 15-16 December. 9 UniMET partners were present to exploit UniMET to conference attendees.

Exploiting UniMET in Europe

1st UniMET conference was held in London, UK with intention to promote and provide information and details about UniMET programmes as well as introducing its quality assurance and control system across Europe. Over 40 attendees representing various stakeholders in Maritime sectors were present at the UniMET conference.

Several Key-note speakers and representatives from each UniMET partner made a presentation in the conference. The audience of UniMET conference were actively involved throughout the speech of the conference audience.

At the later part of the conference a workshop was held in two groups discussing the following issues in MET:

  • Provide best practices in MET in EU countries
  • How can we enhance standards in MET over and above the existing STCW
  • How do we ensure seafarers are competent in Maritime English
  • What are the benefits of exchanging/mobility of staff and students amongst European Institutions
  • How can we resolve the issue of surpluses and shortages of seafarers in EU member states
  • How can we engage policy makers to support and adopt UniMET programme
