UniMET June News: UniMET Project is concluded

UniMET project funding period has officially ended. Final reports on the progress made during the project lifetime have been submitted to EACEA. The UniMET project has led to development of full UniMET programmes which comply with STCW2010.

UniMET Seminar and Final Conference

UniMET Seminar and Final Conference were held on 24th and 25th January 2013, at Bottiglieri Shipping Company Conference room, in Naples, Italy. The seminar and conference theme was structured to illustrate the benefits of the UniMET Programmes and to promote the transfer of good practices between MET institutions throughout Europe. Examples of and discussions about UniMET and how it could be implemented within different institutions/countries was provided. Achievement of UniMET project has to be remarkable. It was reported that the Key policy makers, stakeholders, awarding and licensing bodies were invited to various UniMET dissemination events.

UniMET 5th Partner Meeting

UniMET 5th Partner meeting (Final) was held on 24th January 2013 in Naples, Italy. All UniMET partners attended the meeting and discussed the project progress since the last meeting (the 4th partner meeting) and reviewed the arrangements for and plans of the post-funding period. 4th Partner Meeting in Szczecin, Poland

4th UniMET partner meeting was held in Szcecin, Poland. 8 UniMET partners came together to review the progress made since last partner meeting and tasks were allocated for the following months of the project.

Second UniMET Partner meeting

The Second UniMET partner meeting was held on 21st and 22nd of June 2010 in Klaipeda, Finland. 8 of the 9 partners of the UniMET project came together for a meeting at the Lithuanian Maritime Academy.

The start of a new era

The UniMET project has commenced and first partner meeting is being arranged. The partnership consists of nine major institutions from across Europe. The project’s ambition is to harmonise standards in maritime education and training across Europe, where there no mechanism (other than EMSA) exists to ensure that MET providers are following STCW 95 standards.

UniMET (Unification of Marine Education and Training) project will expand the unification process with successfully concluded EGMDSS project throughout its partnership across Europe. This will help unify certification training on GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress Signalling).

UniMET (Unification of Marine Education and Training) project will tie with EDEXCEL, UK’s largest awarding body, for the unification process across Europe The outcome of recently concluded SOS (Safety on sea) project modules which is accredited by EDEXCEL will be followed. This will help unification process that will be followed by 9 partnership consortium.

The STCW Code Revision

The convention, which has an impact on standards of seafarers’ education and training, has been amended. This is said to affect the competitiveness and employability of seafarers in the global seafaring industry. The changes are major titled as "Manila Changes".
